This tutorial will guide you step by step to create your first project processing of seismic refraction surveys.

The tutorial refers to an example dataset that you can download from here.

The recording line used is 37.5 meters long and 16 geophones are deployed every 2.5 meters. The recorded file are ordered from 1 to 7.

 

Creating a new project

smartRefract starts with the following screen:

From the "Welcome window" the user can create a new project (orange), open a previous project (green) or open a recently opened project on the right.
After click the New button the user can select the seismic file (seg2, segy and su).
 
The user have to select all the file at once. After have done that the gemoetry setting are shown.
 
In this survay are gathered data form seven shots three inline and four outsider geophonic spread. La prova è stata eseguita energizzando in sette punti di cui quattro all'esterno della linea e 3 all'interno e mai in corrispondenza dei geofoni.

The shots position can be insert in to the table "Posizione degli scoppi". For this dataset the interval between geophone is 2.5 meters and first receiver is set at 0 meter,
 
The software main windows has one tab for each elaboration step.

Picking

The user now have to pick first brake from the tab named "Tracce".
This step can be perfomed both manually and autmatically.
Click on "Autopick" button to pick first break automatically.
To select first breaks manually the user can click on the trace for few second if the trace is locked. Click on the lock icon for unlock and pick with only one fast click.
From the same toolbox you can select different level of zoom both vertical (time) and horizontal (intensity).
 
The user can browse all the shots with the arrow on each side of display.

From the "Dromocrone" tab the user can assign the first brakes to the right layer.
 
To select the layer the user have to drag the pointer from from the first "First brake point" to the last relative to the same layer. When the user will release the mouse button a toolbox will be showned. From this toolbox the user can select the layer to be assigned to the selected dromochrone.
 

After the user has compled the previous step and all the first brakes are assigned to a layer the user can select button "Sezione" to get the seismic section according to GRM (Palmer, 1980).
